Elkhart Trash Truck Driver Named Driver of the Year by Waste Industry

ATLANTA (April 29, 2014) — An Elkhart, Indiana, trash truck driver was named Driver of the Year by the national waste and recycling industry’s trade group at an awards ceremony today in Atlanta.

As part of the 46th annual WasteExpo Conference and Exhibition, the National Waste & Recycling Association (Waste & Recycling) honored David Rogenski of Borden Waste-Away Service, Inc., as its Driver of the Year for the Small Company Category.

“The Driver of the Year Awards honor the very best in our industry. These are coveted awards recognizing waste and recycling drivers who have excellent safety records, respect for their companies, and high standards of customer service,” said Charles C. Appleby, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Waste & Recycling.

Photos of Rogenski are available at or by request.

Rogenski has dedicated 18 years to Borden Waste-Away Service, Inc., driving an average of 633 miles each week for more than 6,000 pickups along his routes in Elkhart. With a lengthy record of quality service and safe driving, Rogenski is one of nine drivers selected from 908 Driver of the Year nominees representing 30 companies nationwide—a record applicant pool for the third consecutive year.

“When I do the best job that I can for the company, the company and I will be more successful. I’m proud to be honored by the waste industry for my service and safety record,” Rogenski said.

The 2014 Driver of the Year Awards are sponsored by Lytx (formerly known as DriveCam, Inc.). Winners of these awards are selected using standardized metrics to measure job performance and an association committee reviews their accomplishments.

Del Lisk, vice president of safety services for Lytx, congratulated winners onstage. “At the heart of the DriveCam solution is our passion for improving driver behavior, and our unwavering dedication to helping drivers perform every day to the best of their ability. Lytx is honored to be part of the National Waste & Recycling Association’s efforts to recognize, reward and ultimately reinforce safe driving behavior within the waste and recycling industry and, by extension, everyone on the road,” he said.

Waste & Recycling is the trade association that represents the United States’ private sector waste and recycling services industry. Waste & Recycling is the education partner for WasteExpo—annually North America’s largest waste and recycling tradeshow—and honors a number of industry individuals for service and dedication.
